The Journal

What the Journal records, how to filter and sort it, how to keep filters as presets, how to open it on one account, connection or signal, and what each of its tabs is for.

The Journal, in the side menu, keeps every closed trade your service reports, simulated accounts included, and works out your stats from them. It is where you look back: which signals, accounts and instruments make money, and on which days.

What each trade records

The contract, LONG or SHORT, the size, the entry and exit prices, when it opened and closed, its P&L, how far it went against and for you while it was open (MAE and MFE), the account, and under Strategy the agent that traded it. A trade that no agent placed, such as one you made by hand, shows as unattributed. Press a trade to see all of it. Its P&L is after fees where your broker reports them. A practice trade also shows its slippage, when its connection has practice costs.

Days are trading days, the way your broker counts them: a day starts at 18:00 New York time the evening before, and a weekend counts towards the Monday.

Filter it

One row of filters serves every tab:

  • the date range: a range such as Last 30 Days, or Custom, up to a year at a time;

  • All products, All accounts, All strategies, and All account types, which are LIVE, PROP or SIM as each account's connection is;

  • Long & short, or one side only.

All accounts lists your connections, each with its accounts under it. Tick a connection for all of its accounts, including any it gains later, or tick accounts one at a time. Untick one account of a connection you ticked, and the others stay ticked.

All strategies groups the strategies by who sends their signals: each broadcaster, Leaders, Your signals, and Other for a signal that is no longer there. Tick a broadcaster for all of its strategies, or tick strategies one at a time. Each strategy is listed once, however many accounts run it, and picking it takes all of them.

Ticks in one list add up: a connection and an account of another connection show the trades of both.

The product, account, strategy and account type filters each take several values. Whatever is set shows as a chip under the filters, with a cross to take it off, and Clear all takes them all off. On a phone, the filters fold away behind the filter button, which counts how many are set.

Open it from Automation

Today's trades opens the Journal on the trades of what you are looking at in Automation:

  • an account: under Realized today on its page, or under the day's figure on a phone, and under Today when you press its name on the Matrix on a desktop;

  • a connection: under Realized today on its page;

  • a signal: under Realized today on a desktop, and under its name on a phone;

  • a leader, on the Copy tab: beside the leader's balance, under its name, for the trades its followers copied;

  • one agent's tile on the Matrix: in the menu a press opens, for that account's trades of that strategy.

The Journal opens on Today, on the Trades tab, with what you came from set as a chip under the filters. A connection's chip carries a plug, and a signal's a broadcast mark. Change the range, or open another tab, and the chip stays until you take it off. Save this view keeps it as a preset.

A signal can only be set this way: there is no list of signals in the filters. To look at a whole broadcaster, use All strategies.

Presets

The cards above the filters are your presets: a date range and filters, kept under a name. Each card shows the net P&L and the number of trades for what it holds. Press a card and the filters are set to it. The Journal starts with Today and Last 7 days, and opens on the preset you picked last.

  • To keep the filters that are set now, press Save this view, give it a name, and press Save.

  • Change the range or a filter while a preset is chosen, and Update appears in the corner of its card. Press it, change the name if you like, and press Update. A change you don't update is not kept: to go back to the preset as it was saved, press its card again.

  • To rename or delete a preset, press ⋯ in the corner of its card. On a computer it shows when you point at the card. One preset always stays.

On the Calendar tab, a preset sets the filters and the calendar keeps the month it shows. Presets are kept in the browser you made them in, so a phone and a computer each have their own. On a phone, the cards scroll sideways and their menus open from the bottom of the screen.

The four tabs

  • Dashboard: Net P&L, Win rate, Profit factor, Expectancy, Avg win / loss and Max drawdown, then the Cumulative net P&L curve, How far trades went · MAE / MFE, the daily P&L, and when in the week your money is made.

  • Calendar: a month of daily net P&L with weekly totals. The first and last week show their days from the months either side too, a little fainter, and a week's total counts all seven of its days; the figures above the calendar are the month's alone. Press a day for its trades in the order they closed, and Open in Trades for the full list.

  • Trades: every trade in the range, newest first, 100 at a time with Show more for the next: a table on a wide screen, and cards on a phone. Each trade shows when it opened and closed, to the second, how long it was held, and its worst and best while it was open with a small bar between them. Press a column's heading to sort by it, such as P&L for the biggest win first, and press it again to turn the order round. On a phone, choose the order under Sort by, above the cards, and the arrow beside it turns it round.

  • Reports: the same figures side by side for each strategy, each account and each product. Press a heading to sort a table by it, such as Win rate or Max DD for the deepest drawdown first, and again to turn it round.

A sort lasts until you leave the Journal. It opens again newest first, with the reports by their net P&L.

Your P&L Cards are made from this same history.
